Chemotherapy enhances risk of thrombosis. Procoagulant apoptotic vesicles are released from a range of tumor cells. Critical role for tissue factor and the prothrombinase complex identified. Tumor vesicle-associated Factor V is not sufficient for fibrin generation. No consistent role for Factors VIII and IX in tumor-vesicle induced coagulation.
