•: We pyramided Xa23, Bph14 and Bph15 genes into an elite restorer line Huazhan.
•: All improved lines with these three genes had high-level resistance to BB & BPH.
•: Most of their derived hybrids with TianfengA had high-level resistance to BB & BPH.
•: TianfengA/R43-06 and TianfengA/R43-07 had higher yield potential than the control.
•: These two hybrids could replace Tianyouhuazhan in BB and/or BPH epidemic areas.
