The magnetic coupling between ferromagnets mediated by graphene is studied. To this end, the linear dichroic effect in 3p photoemission lines is employed. For selected junctions no magnetic coupling is attained through graphene. Graphene inhibits the magnetic alignment that normally occurs between ferromagnets.
