The Lower Fraser Valley is an ideal study case for peri-urban nutrient cycling. The region is a phosphorus (P) sink, net influx was 3.2 kg P per person per year. Animal feed and fertilizer used to produce local food were the major influxes of P. Most imported P ended up in agricultural soils, marine waters and landfills. Few waste management practices helped to reduce P imbalance.
