Evaluation of the distribution and metabolism of polyphenols derived from cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum) in mice gastrointestinal tract by UPLC-ESI-QTOF
Cupuassu is a unique food combining epicatechin derivatives and 8-hydroxy-flavones.
•
Gastrointestinal distribution and metabolism of cupuassu flavonoids were studied.
•
Flavone conjugates released the respective aglycones with no further metabolism.
•
Procyanidin metabolism seems to be affected by the food matrix.
•
We identified the compounds that are thought to have biological effects in the colon.
