Work reports the novel modification of poly vinyl chloride (PVC) using amino acid L-cysteine.

Blend membrane was prepared using modified PVC and polysulfone as control membrane in optimum composition.

The blend was then converted to composite membranes using TiO<sub>2sub> nano particles and were used for rejection of As (V).

The composite membranes showed improved rejection of As (V) throughout the whole pH range.
