•: The Yb:SYB crystal with high Yb³⁺ concentration was grown using Czochralski method.
•: SESAM mode-locking performances of Yb:SYB crystal were reported for the first time.
•: Sub-120-fs pulses lasers were generated from Yb:SYB based oscillators.
•: The corresponding slope efficiencies could reach to 49–54%.
