Ethanol (EtOH) enhances GABA signaling that reduces its acceleration of LHb firing. EtOH enhances GABA signaling with an EC50 of 1.5 mM. EtOH potentiation of GABA signaling is limited by presynaptic GABAB receptors. EtOH potentiation of GABA signaling is mediated partly by dopamine receptors. EtOH enhances both GABA and glutamate transmissions to the majority of LHb cells.
