Sonic hedgehog (Shh) was induced by MPTP neurotoxin at the Substantia Nigra (SN) in vivo. Activated microglia are major cell type for SHH expression in vivo and in vitro. Different types of cells in the brain, except oligodendrocyte, respond to microglia-derived SHH in SN region.
