Post-stroke vascular cognitive impairment portends deficits in multiple cognitive domains, maximal for memory. In comparison to non-vascular MCI impaired verbal list learning, recall and abstract visual recognition memory predominated. Relatively minor deficits noted on tests of processing speed and executive functioning after adjusting for age and sex. Impairment in verbal, visual learning and prose recall correlated with severity of white matter hyperintensities on MRI.
