Comparison of sharp and smoothed interface methods for simulation of particulate flows II: Inertial and added mass effects

Smoothed Profile Method (SPM) and Sharp Interface Method (SIM) are compared for particulate flows. Applicability of SPM is extended to Re∼O(104) and for the wake flows. SPM is more accurate for integrated quantities, e.g. CD but not for surface vorticity. In cases with high added mass effect, SPM is more efficient and robust than SIM. Aitken relaxation and higher order FSI schemes reduce the computational time of the implicit schemes.
