Docosahexaenoic acid signaling attenuates the proliferation and differentiation of bone marrow-derived osteoclast precursors and promotes apoptosis in mature osteoclasts

DHA inhibits osteoclast formation from mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages. DHA attenuates precursor proliferation by suppressing M-CSF-induced Akt activation and D-type cyclin expression. DHA inhibits osteoclastogenesis by blocking RANKL-induced activation of NF-κB and MAPKs. DHA accelerates osteoclast apoptosis by enhancing Bim expression.
