Ingestion of button batteries ≥20 mm, can cause complications including if lodged in the esophagus.

Patients often present with non-specifc history and no ingestion history.

On anterior chest radiography look for a double-rim or halo effect. On lateral projection look for a step off or lip.

Detection of a battery in the esophagus may lead to the addition of postmortem CT angiography.

The most effective management strategy of fatal button battery ingestion is primary prevention.
