EBSD is a suitable method to separate crystal phases of the composition Y2Si2O7. XRD analysis of Y2Si2O7 is challenging due to peak superposition. Twinning is indicated for triclinic α-Y2Si2O7. An epitaxial relationship between β-Y2Si2O7 and alumina is indicated.
