Gender fraud and deception in asynchronous online communication is a real-world problem. An experiment design and associated path analysis highlight the complex interconnectivity in cognitive factors (motivation and self-efficacy) and gender-based communication influence of gender deception theory. The study implies that gender is a factor in detecting online gender deception within social, financial and business relationships.
