Efficient CD8 T cell response to influenza virus requires effector and memory cells. Influenza severity is related to an efficient effector T cell response. CD26 is differentially expressed on naîve, effector and memory T cells. Effector and memory T cell subsets were diminished in severe AH1N1 influenza.
