Mef2c is highly expressed in the mouse and human retina. Mef2c localizes to mouse and human photoreceptor nuclei in situ. Mef2c is present in the nucleus of 661W photoreceptor-like cells. Mef2c knock-down in 661W cells impairs photoreceptor gene expression.
