Inhibition of GSH production causes a high toxicity to guinea pigs, but not to mice. Inhibition of GSH production increased mouse tissue ascorbate levels. Induction of ascorbate synthesis prevents mice from oxidative stress injury. Guinea pigs have reduced capacity of protecting against oxidative stress than mice.
