Modulation of ESIPT fluorescence was studied in different environments.

Non-ESIPT fluorescence predominates in most of the hydrophobic domains.

TX-100 interacts more strongly with the probes.

The probes bind with moderate affinities to serum proteins.

The results are in agreement with the observations in homogeneous solvents.
