A new pump-out hydrodynamic mechanical seal with self-pumping effect is presented. A parametric study on the sealing performance of the mechanical seal is conducted. There exits an optimum groove depth to obtain a better comprehensive sealing performance. The new seal can be qualified for the operating condition with large pressure difference.
