Investigation of phase birefringence and group birefringence of square size photonic crystal fiber at wavelength 1.3 ¦Ìm

A new variety of square size photonic crystal fiber with high phase birefringence and group birefringence is investigated successfully via Full-Vector Finite Element Method (FV-FEM). By taking suitable geometrical fiber parameters in cladding region of solid core PCF such as elliptical air hole diameter with ellipticity a/b = 0.50 and pitch 2.3 ¦Ìm, phase birefringence 1.0 ¡Á 10?3 and group birefringence 1.9 ¡Á 10?3 with low confinement loss 3.7 ¡Á 10?6 dB/km are found at 1.3 ¦Ìm wavelength.
