Subsolidus Mg–Fe exchange was a main cause of the lighter δ56Fe values of chromites than their coexisting olivines. Massive crystallization of chromites happened earlier than olivines during the formation of MTZ chromitites. Magma mixing played an important role for the oversaturation of chromites in magma chambers of ophiolitic MTZ.
