Which patients with epilepsy are at risk for psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNES)? A multicenter case-control study
文摘

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES) tend to develop in women with longer disease duration and right-hemispheric epileptic seizures (ES).

Electrographically, compared with ES-only patients, PNES/ES patients tend to have more left-hemibody ES events.

Clinically, compared with PNES-only patients, PNES/ES patients tend to have fewer right-hemibody PNES events.

ES “kindling” precedes by years the onset of PNES in most patients with PNES/ES.

Abnormal cortical activity in strategic locations may increase the risk for functional complications in neurological disorders.
