Role of oxygen and DOM in sunlight induced photodegradation of organophosphorous flame retardants in river water

Some OPFRs achieved an important degradation under solar radiation. Sunlight absorbing OPFR exhibited photosensitizing activity. Singlet oxygen mediated reactions account as the main degradation pathway of OPFR. Humic acid inhibited OPFR phototransformations mediated by singlet oxygen. Inorganic constituents in river water increased photodegradation of most OPFR.
