•: Pt-modified mixed phase TiO₂ hollow nanofibers photocatalysts were prepared.
•: The band gap of TiO₂ HNFs decreased from 3.09 down to 2.77 eV with 2 wt.% Pt loading.
•: Pt/TiO₂ HNFs exhibited enhanced visible-light photocatalytic activity for the degradation of Orange II.
•: The stability of Pt/TiO₂ HNFs and possible degradation mechanism were investigated.
•: O₂⁻ radicals were the main reactive oxygen species for Orange II degradation.
