Effects of mounding and soil clay content on postplanting seedling growth were studied.
•
Practical and experimental plantations were inventoried in south-western Finland.
•
All mounding treatments decreased seedling mortality and increased growth as expected.
•
Growth, collar diameter and survival were faintly related to clay content.
•
Growth tended to be poorest on silty soils with a clay content of 20–30%.
