Five different sludges were used to study Fe (II) – oxone conditioning mechanism. Filterability was negatively correlated with LMW protein and neutrals in LB EPS. Percentage of damaged microbial cells increased by Fe (II) – oxone conditioning. Three models were used to study sludge rheology by Fe (II) – oxone conditioning. A two-step mechanism was proposed for Fe (II) – oxone conditioning.
