文摘

Lipid peroxidation plays a central role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis.

We have analyzed the interaction of sphingosine with peroxidized bilayers.

Sphingosine causes aggregation of Cu2 +-peroxidized vesicles.

Aggregation is facilitated by negatively-charged phospholipids in the membrane.

Formation of imines in the membrane appeared to be necessary for aggregation.
