Photoluminescence dynamics in singlet fission chromophore liquid melts

Time-resolved spectroscopy was used to study rubrene, diphenylhexatriene, and tetracene in the liquid phase. Singlet fission was found to occur in rubrene with a timescale comparable to the crystalline system. Diphenylhexatriene was observed to have a rapid singlet loss channel that outcompetes singlet fission. Tetracene decomposed at the temperature needed to melt the sample which negated the possibly of further study. Singlet fission and triplet lifetimes were not enhanced in the liquid phase.
