The superstructure behaviour is strongly affected by the foundation rotation. Rotations of foundations with inclined piles are in antiphase with translations. Foundation rotations induce greater inertia forces than horizontal displacements. In soft soils, stress resultants are greater than those relevant to vertical piles. For inclined piles, conventional structural design procedures are inadequate.
