A novel FP-XRF approach of analysing trace elements in marine macroalgae is described. XRF is able to detect As, Cu, Pb and Zn in various species of macroalgae. Concentrations returned are directly proportional to those delivered by ICP. The potential for the in situ application of XRF is discussed.
