An updated inventory of the Laramide porphyry copper deposits of Mexico is provided. Metallogenic variations along the Mexican porphyry copper belt are evaluated in terms of the nature of the basement. A tectonomagmatic model is proposed to explain the origin of the copper cluster of NW Mexico and SW United States.
