The flower-like Al2O3 microspheres with exposed {1 1 0} facets are fabricated. The Pt/Al2O3 exhibits excellent HCHO decomposition activity at room temperature. Al3C sites on the {1 1 0} facets of Al2O3 catalysts lead to high Pt dispersion. DOM and formate species were identified over catalysts during decomposition.
