Through reasonably adjusting processing parameters, a stable superhydrophobic surface with myriad lined protrusions is successfully constructed on the TiAl-based composite surface by a simple, efficient and facile operation in large-area laser marking treatment. The morphology, composition, wettability of the fabricated surface are investigated. Furthermore, the superhydrophobic performance in acid solution including aggressive ions, long-term superhydrophobic stability in various corrosive liquids and mechanic abrasion resistance are studied. The fabricated surface shows excellent superhydrophobicity after fluorination. The contact angle of as-prepared surface can reach 154.9°. The surface has very low adhesive force. Furthermore, the surface can provide great and long-term corrosion protection for TiAl-based composite in various corrosive liquids (seawater, alkaline and acidic solutions including Cl). More importantly, the superhydrophobic surface has high hardness and stable mechanical abrasion resistance, which will highly improve the performance of superhydrophobic surface in engineering and some harsh environments. The facile and low-cost laser marking treatment offers an effective technique satisfying with requirement of engineering applications to fabricate large-area superhydrophobic surface on TiAl-based composites easily and efficiently.
