WN, VN, and Mo2N were prepared as novel cathode materials for lithium sulfur batteries. The mechanism underlying these cathodes polysulfide redox reactions was investigated. Higher loading WN demonstrated a high capacity of 1283 mAh g−1 sulfur after 100 cycles.
