Evaluation of fish meal and fish oil replacement by soybean protein and algal meal from Schizochytrium limacinum in diets for giant grouper Epinephelus lanceolatus
Diets for giant grouper containing 40% soy and algal ingredients yielded similar growth as diets based on fish ingredients.
•
Schizochytrium limacinum meal can be used as the main lipid source in diets for giant grouper.
•
Higher DHA:EPA ratios in fish fillet are found with increased use of S. limacinum meal in the diet.
•
High dietary levels of soy and algal ingredients induce enteritis and lower lipid retention in giant grouper.
