•: The mineral content of 100 diverse sorghum genotypes were evaluated.
•: Genotypes presented high variability for P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn.
•: Water stress decreased Mn, P, Mg and S contents in 100, 96, 93 and 56% of genotypes.
•: 2% of the genotypes were classified as excellent sources of Fe and 25% of Zn.
•: These genotypes may be used in biofortification programs to reduce mineral deficiency.
