Male olive frogs defend their territories using vocalizations and physical fights. Their vocalizations are highly individually distinct. Territory holders are more aggressive in response to calls of unfamiliar males. The calls of established neighbours elicit lower levels of aggression. Neighbouring olive frogs are ‘dear enemies’ based on recognizing identity signals.
