A new method is proposed to estimate the elasto-plasticity of materials using the residual imprint of spherical indentation.

The ill-posed nature of inverse analysis is investigated.

Using the weighting imprint obtained from different prescribed indentation loads gives more stable and reliable result.

Effectiveness of the new approach is verified by application on 2099-T83 Al-Li alloys.
