SC-CO2 is an effective solvent in the lipase catalyzed ethanolysis of fish oil. Avoiding direct contact of the enzyme with ethanol, no inhibition is observed. An expanded liquid phase is observed that helps enhancing reaction rate. The lipase showed higher thermal stability in SC-CO2 reaction medium. Less oxidized reaction products are obtained compared to conventional processes.
