Recipient HLA-C Haplotypes and microRNA 148a/b Binding Sites Have No Impact on Allogeneic Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation Outcomes

In contrast to small single-center studies, this large registry study shows that recipients who were homozygous for HLA-C1 epitopes (C1/C1) had no survival benefit. Mismatching at HLA-C was not beneficial in recipients possessing at least 1 C2 allele. The polymorphic microRNA (miR-148a/b) binding site within the 3′-region of the HLA-C, which has been shown to influence HLA-C surface density, is not associated with transplant outcomes.
