New dinitrobenzene-containing chemosensor 1 was developed as a colorimetric sensor for Co2+ and S2−. Sensor 1 detected Co2+ from pale yellow to light green through LMCT mechanism. Sensor 1 detected S2− from pale yellow to pink through deprotonation process. Detection limit of 1 for Co2+ was lower than the Environmental Protection Agency guideline.
