Fluid flow and transport mechanisms along with geomechanics in shale and tight gas reservoirs are recapitulated. Advances in macroscopic THMC simulation techniques for shale and tight gas reservoirs are reviewed. Pore-scale modeling methods for fluid flow and transport in unconventional reservoir rocks are illustrated and compared. Challenges from unconventional reservoirs and perspectives on developing new simulation techniques are discussed.
