Green and facile method was used to obtain porous cellulose microcolloids.

Probiotic cells adhered to the surface and penetrated to the core of microcolloids.

The release amount of probiotics was proportional to the porosity of RCM.

The core-shell colloids afford better shelter for probiotic residence.
