•: Clusters of MnO_x and CeO_y were modified onto TiO₂ surface by CCC processing.
•: By the MvK mechanism, the powder decomposed 2-naphthol in water in the dark.
•: Visible light illumination increased the decomposition activity.
•: Decomposition activity in the dark decreased gradually because of repeated use.
•: The decreased activity was recovered by UV illumination and heat treatment.
