We measured event-related potentials to emotional stimuli in young smokers.

k-means cluster analysis was used to divide smokers into two groups.

One group had larger brain responses to pleasant stimuli than cigarette cues.

Another group had larger brain responses to cigarette cues than to pleasant stimuli.

This finding is consistent with previous research on heavy smokers.
