Sixty-two yeasts were isolated from rice seeds.

Four yeasts showed high efficacy in reducing bakanae incidence and severity.

A strain of Pichia guilliermondi resulted the most effective antagonist.

The combined use of thermotherapy and yeasts increased the biocontrol efficacy.

Both the antagonists and hot water treatment showed a seed priming effect.
