Transgenic TALENs and the CRISPR/Cas9 system are efficient in targeted gene disruption in Bombyx mori. The sex-specific isoform of Bmdsx regulates sexual dimorphism in a sex-specific manner. The sex-specific sterility induced by dsx depletion might be applicable in Lepidoptera pest control.
