A novel causal mechanism for grey squirrel bark stripping: The Calcium Hypothesis
详细信息    查看全文
文摘

Grey squirrels damage trees in the UK by stripping bark but motivations are unknown.

The Calcium Hypothesis states bark is ingested to ameliorate a calcium deficiency.

The literature is reviewed and evidence for the Calcium Hypothesis synthesised.

Further work should investigate if a seasonal calcium deficiency exists.
