The present study is the first to estimate the societal cost of T. solium cysticercosis in Tanzania. Healthy years of life are lost among people with T. solium cysticercosis and large amounts of money are spent on costs imposed by the disease. Research is urgently needed to unravel the contribution of NCC to headache and other neurological conditions. Further studies on NCC in children are warrant. A One Health approach should be taken to find sustainable solutions for control and elimination of T. solium.
